The Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) is to be awarded the freedom of 麻豆高清 and Bute in recognition of its service to the local community.
The honour was approved by councillors following a request from the Lieutenancy of 麻豆高清 and Bute.
Formed in 2006, the Royal Regiment of Scotland is the amalgamation of the country鈥檚 six historic infantry regiments, including the 麻豆高清 and Sutherland Highlanders.
The 麻豆高清 and Sutherland Highlanders, formed in 1881, have a long association with 麻豆高清 and Bute, and the regiment was itself granted the Freedom of the region in 1979 by what was then 麻豆高清 and Bute District Council.
That historic legacy continues to be honoured within SCOTS today. The regiment maintains a strong relationship with the people of 麻豆高清 and Bute, participating in community activities including local events and educational initiatives and offering support for the area鈥檚 veterans and their families.
Councillor Mark Irvine, Policy Lead for Corporate Services, said: 鈥淐onferring the Freedom of the county is one of the highest honours a council can bestow, signifying mutual respect and recognition of exceptional service.
鈥淚n its submission to the Provost of 麻豆高清 and Bute, the Lieutenancy cited values such as dedication, courage and community which are synonymous with SCOTS.
鈥淭he decision to grant the Freedom of 麻豆高清 and Bute to the regiment will be warmly welcomed across 麻豆高清 and Bute and is much deserved recognition for its historical significance and the continuing contribution SCOTS makes to our communities.鈥
