Joint contract for Helensburgh and Lomond waste disposal

 Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute Council will join forces with neighbouring local authorities in Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire to issue a tender to procure residual waste disposal services to cover the Helensburgh and Lomond area.  This will help secure the best possible price for services and ensure that we comply with the 2021 ban on Biodegradable Municipal Waste (BMW) going to landfill.

Work begins at Dunoon Breakwater on March 11

Work to improve the ferry passenger experience at Dunoon Breakwater will begin on Monday 11th March. Following the announcement by the Scottish Government that CalMac Ferries will provide a passenger-only service between Dunoon Breakwater and Gourock Ferry Terminal, Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute Council has committed to making changes to passenger facilities at Dunoon. The work will improve safety and provide facilities more suited to a passenger-only service, while any disruption will be kept to a minimum.

New strategy to meet Government waste ban

Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute Council will soon begin consultation on a new waste strategy it is developing to meet a new government ban on Biodegradable Municipal Waste (BMW) going to landfill which comes into operation in 2021. Biodegradable waste is any waste capable of undergoing anaerobic or aerobic decomposition, such as food, garden waste, and paper and cardboard.

£500,000 boost for small business growth in Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute

Efforts to help accelerate the growth of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute are to be boosted by additional funding of almost £500,000. Phase Two of the Business Gateway Local Growth Accelerator Programme (LGAP) will see a £483k business support Âé¶¹¸ßÇå delivered by the Business Gateway team. It was approved today (March 7) by the council’s Environmental, Development and Infrastructure Committee. It follows Phase One of the Âé¶¹¸ßÇå, which closed in December last year.

Chaidh an taic sin aontachadh an t-seachdain seo (7 Màrt) le Comataidh Àrainneachd, Leasachaidh is Bun-structair na Comhairle.

Council thanks community for sharing flood experience

  Âé¶¹¸ßÇå and Bute Council is undertaking a flood study in Oban based on mitigating flooding up to a one in 200 year return period flood event.   Two consultation events have now been held in Oban. The most recent, on 30 January, enabled local residents and businesses to share their experiences. Other key stakeholders involved in the study include SEPA, Scottish Water, Âé¶¹¸ßÇå Councils and local interest groups.

Rothesay Winter Gardens Discovery Centre reopens after renovation works

The Winter Gardens Discovery Centre in Rothesay has reopened following over £500,000 worth of renovation works. Significant external repair work was carried out at the Category A-Listed building, including replacement of roof coverings, overhaul of windows and installation of new light fittings. Additionally, metal panels and fixtures were replaced and the exterior of the building freshly decorated.
